This project was created for a couple in their late 40's. Their children have moved out and they want to make their home comfortable and efficient for the two of them and also open, friendly and functional for entertaining friends and hosting family gatherings.

The kitchen was small, only allowing one cook to work at a time, and isolated from the rest of the house. We turned the existing kitchen area into a breakfast nook and moved the kichen workspace into the area previously used for dining. Moving a wall into the closet of an existing bedroom enlarged this space. The addition of a door transformed the storage closet from the adjacent living room into a walk in pantry. The new kichen has become the central hub of the home. Both the formal dining room, on one side, and the family room, on the other, have become extensions of the centrally located cooking area. The bar allows guests to visit with the cook or assist with preparations. The bar also can be used as a serving counter for finger foods or buffet style dinners. The open design allows guests to help themselves as the party progresses. The proximity of the formal dining area, familyroom, and breakfast nook provide ample room for guests to mingle comfortably in a variety of settings.

The contractor and homeowner have partnered together to transform this 25 year old tract home into a personalized custom design that is the prize of the neighborhood.
